It’s READ-IN 2017 and you are invited!
Read-In 2017, a statewide celebration of reading, will be held at the State House in Columbia on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. This exciting event provides an opportunity for students, librarians, parents and other literacy supporters to demonstrate the importance of reading and the need for library services in our communities.
Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite book to read on the State House grounds after the event. If you want to dress as your favorite character do it! Banners, signs and all things fun are encouraged to help us celebrate books and reading!
Participants will gather at the State Library at 1500 Senate Street between 9:15 am and 9:30 am. The parade to the State House begins promptly at 10 am. At the State House there will be a program followed by special entertainment and reading in small groups. The Read-In will end at noon. Each group is responsible for providing their own reading material, banners or signs. One adult for every five children is required.
Registration is online only, and be completed by filling out the form on this page.
Confirmation packets will be online by Friday, March 17, and all registered schools will be notified by email.
